ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate financial records related to the company’s expense accounts. This includes generating work papers, performing balance sheet roll forwards, conducting account analyses, preparing journal entries, and other responsibilities related to the monthly close process. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Monthly Close Process:

  • Prepare and review journal entries for expense-related accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP).
  • Generate and maintain detailed work papers to support the monthly close process, documenting key calculations and assumptions.
  • Perform balance sheet roll forwards and reconciliations for expense-related accounts, ensuring proper documentation and explanation of variances.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, focusing on expense-related line items.

Expense Account Analysis:

  • Conduct detailed account analysis to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Reconcile expense accounts and ensure proper allocations across departments and cost centers.
  • Work closely with accounts payable, procurement, and other teams to ensure accurate recording and classification of expenses.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over expense accounting and reporting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, company policies, and external regulatory standards.
  • Provide support for external audits, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries related to expense accounts.

Process Improvement:

  • Evaluate existing processes related to expense accounting and identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Collaborate with the broader Finance & Accounting team to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in system upgrades and implementations, ensuring accurate integration of expense-related data.

Ad Hoc Projects and Support:

  • Provide support for budget-to-actual variance analysis and other management reporting needs.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to expense accounting and reporting.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager or Controller.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or progress toward CPA designation preferred).
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, with 2-3 years in public accounting in one of the top 10 nationally recognized accounting firms and 2-3 years in controllership/close process operations.
  • Experience with publicly traded companies subject to SEC reporting and SOX compliance requirements.
  • Experience in asset management industry is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP standards.
  • Proficiency in Netsuite, Concur, and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Workiva is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with expense management tools and financial reporting software.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven track record of process improvements in finance operations including automation and innovation such as use of AI tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
