ABOUT THE POSITION
GQG is unusual among larger asset managers in having been a relatively recent startup, and our culture continues to be fast paced and require a high level of commitment. An inquisitive nature and passion to learn, as well as the capacity to think critically, develop processes from scratch, work well as part of a team, and take initiative when appropriate, are crucial.
We are seeking an individual with a high level of intellectual curiosity and a commitment to excellence to join our legal team as a Contracts Associate. This role will report to the Deputy General Counsel and will focus on drafting and negotiating a wide range of vendor and third party agreements. You will be responsible for managing third party onboarding, renewals, and terminations of contracts for GQG and taking an active role more generally in GQG’s vendor management process.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience reviewing, negotiating and managing contracts. Experience with privacy law (including GDPR, Regulation S-P and relevant state law) is a plus.
Salary Range: $125,000 – $150,000 (plus annual discretionary bonus)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of agreements, including confidentiality agreements, master services agreements, statements of work, consulting agreements, privacy policies, and other vendor and services agreements in support of GQG initiatives.
- Administer and manage contract flow and volume in GQG’s third party risk management system.
- Support of GQG’s global privacy program, including responsibility for evaluation of the impact of applicable law and changes to applicable law on privacy GQG’s business, contract terms and documentation with vendors and clients, and other aspects of compliance with applicable law.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external parties to ensure timely turnaround and negotiation of agreements.
- Provide counsel on risk mitigation and compliance requirements and develop processes and workflows to promote efficiencies and effectiveness.
- General project support, as the need arises.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum five years of relevant commercial law experience at a law firm and/or in-house.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to the applicable state bar.
- Experience reviewing, drafting, interpreting, and negotiating contracts of all types and ability to comprehend and manage business contracts and other complex documents.
- Working without close supervision, initiating new assignments and identifying ways to continuously improve templates, processes and operations.
- Experience operating in an environment that stresses both individual accountability and team-based performance.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly in a fast-changing environment and maintain a high level of commitment.
- Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, spot issues and identify areas of risk, as well as to focus on detail.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use all Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
